What are the new rules?

It is your responsibility to ensure that your advertising content on Roblox adheres to the Roblox Terms of Use, all applicable Roblox terms and policies including the Roblox Community Standards, and all applicable laws and regulations.

Keeping up can be difficult, luckily you’ve got us to break down the tech side of things!

The new Ad Standards outline a more strict and and a clearer precedent for advertisers to disclose their content in-game. Including clear disclosures, new API to hide ad content from users and stricter rules about Data Privacy.

New disclosures?

If your content falls under ad-rules, you must disclose it clearly! For us, disclosures have been a friend even before it was mandatory. And include;

  • Permanent “THIS IS AN AD!” on-screen disclosure

Policy Service?

Roblox has given us a great new tool to also limit under 13s exposure to ad content with the new PolicyService API!
The new rules tell us to turn away players who have ad content disabled, meaning mostly under 13s, increasing the safety and playability for the younger ages.

But how exactly?
Users that don’t meet the standards, aren’t shown certain content in-game or are turned away from the game completely. This means integrations can still happen but some branded items would be hidden.

However, this creates a problem with the games like system, as players join and get turned away, they can still dislike and tank the game’s like ratio. A great example of this is Froot Loops world that dropped to a 30% like rating.
Hopefully Roblox engages this problem swiftly and sooner than later.

Our verdict

SPARKO has always been in the forefront of safe advertising with integrity and coherence as our core principles while developing our integrations or games.

While Roblox ad standards make it difficult to advertise to under 13s - branded content such can still be visible if certain criteria is met.

Our mission is making sure that the content we promote isn’t fraudulent, dangerous, illegal and doesn’t include harmful messaging.
While including all necessary disclaimers, taking mandatory precautions through PolicyService and making sure no 3rd party services are harvesting user data.
And most importantly - making sure that no ad system fraud or abuse is being committed.
